Serving the Baltic Region and Country Hub for Horizon SHORE
Serving the Baltic Region and Country Hub for Horizon SHORE
The Baltic Sea region faces significant challenges in balancing the growth of blue economy sectors with the need for environmental protection. Sectors like maritime transport, tourism, and fisheries rely heavily on a healthy marine ecosystem, yet unsustainable practices and human pressures continue to threaten the sea's well-being. To address these issues, a shift in mindset and approach is necessary, starting with education.
The Baltic Region Hackathon sponsors activity aimed at harnessing the power of systems thinking as an innovative educational tool to engage students in learning about sustainable blue economy practices and foster important transversal skills like critical thinking, collaboration or working in teams, effective communication and applying creativity to problem solving . By creating immersive, game-based learning experiences, we can make education more engaging and effective in preparing the next generation of leaders and decision-makers to tackle the complex challenges facing the Baltic Sea region.
Participants will have the opportunity to make a real impact on the future of education and the sustainability of the Baltic Sea region's blue economy. Join us in creating engaging, immersive learning experiences that inspire students to become agents of change and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.

Student teams progress through hackathon scenarios by applying critical thinking skills and working collaboratively to develop innovative solutions that promote circularity and decarbonization, sustainable fisheries, restoring ecosystems, etc. in support of the EU Mission "Restore Our Ocean and Waters by 2030".
