Knowledge sharing to protect precious resources
Blue Baltic Ecosystem forges partnerships between multiple partners and different actors, including convening the Quadruple Helix - policymakers, researchers, fisheries and other Blue Economy operators, spatial planners, and a cross-section of society including students as citizens who come together to co-create innovations
The Blue Baltic Ecosystem is a living lab - a collaborator in a network of real-life test and experimentation environments that foster co-creation and open innovation among the main actors of the Quadruple Helix Model, namely: industry, academia, government and citizens. It is also aligned with the Horizon Europe concept as a place that fosters the involvement of local communities and the popularization of knowledge among scientific and research institutions, as well as other stakeholders at local, regional and transnational scales.
Lighthouses are single sites to showcase good practices, impart learning and share knowledge. These are places for demonstration and peer-to-peer learning, where replication of good practices take place and can be shown to inspire practitioners to move towards addressing challenges and co-creating solutions to problems.
Lighthouses are also sponsored online without geographic restrictions.
Living Labs support innovative ways to perform experiments in real-life conditions, interacting with a wide variety of stakeholders. This is key to make sure that research and innovation find solutions to societal challenges as well as solve problems faced by actors in the multiple helix nexus as inclusive collaboration.
We believe that addressing the challenges of climate change in the Baltic Sea Region requires collaboration towards supporting the implementation of the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters". The European Commission's initiative aims to protect and restore the health of our ocean and waters through research and innovation, citizen engagement and blue investments. It is one of five missions that play key roles in achieving climate neutrality and restoring nature.
Cross-cutting enabling actions will support this objective, in particular broad public mobilization and engagement and a digital ocean and water knowledge system, known as Digital Twin Ocean ENGLISH•••.
One of five Implementation plans for the Missions ENGLISH••• that also focus on Adaptation to Climate Change, SMART Cities, Soils, and Cancer, the Restore our Oceans and Water mission supports regional engagement and cooperation through area-based “lighthouses” in major sea/river basins: Atlantic-Arctic, Mediterranean Sea, Baltic-North Sea, and Danube-Black Sea. Mission lighthouses are sites to pilot, demonstrate, develop and deploy the Mission activities across EU seas and river basins.
Join us in building impactful coalitions and partnerships as a stakeholder in the future of the Baltic Sea Region aligned with the "3P of Sustainability" - PEOPLE * PLANET * PROSPERITY.
Through our network, you will gain access to cross-sectoral collaboration, educational material, invitations to events and programming, and opportunities to get involved in our initiatives.
